Crowned Heads Angels Anvil TAA 2015

Tonight we have the Crowned Heads Angels Anvil TAA 2015.  This cigar has a dark brown wrapper with a few visible veins and invisible seems.  It comes in at 6 X 52.  After lighting the draw is perfect, not to loose and not too tight.  The cigar is putting off a tone of smoke.  The draw has some black pepper flavor and tingle sensation with a tiny bit of cedar as well.  The black pepper continues on the finish adding in a touch of sweet tobacco and slight coco notes.  The flavors stay on the palate for a little while but by the time of the next puff they have backed off a little. The body is at a medium.  The burn is slightly wavy but not an issue.

Around an inch and a half down the cigar transforms on the finish.  The draw is still perfect producing large amounts of smoke.  The draw still has the black pepper flavor and tingle sensation with some sweet tobacco and cedar.  The finish started with some earth and sweet tobacco and transitioned to a sweet coco and hazelnut flavor.  A coffee note comes in every few puffs or so but fades away quickly.  The hazelnut turns out out to be the dominant flavor.  Its sweet and creamy textured.  The cigar has stayed at a medium in body but is giving off some delicious flavors.  The burn has evened out but still goes wavy every now and then.

Three inches in and some more transitions happen.  The draw is still perfect.  The draw flavors have seen the pepper come up in intensity, especially through the nose on the retro hale.  The finish has the pepper flavor mixed in with the hazelnut notes.  A earthy leather has started to dominate the hazelnut.  The earth is a dirty gritty earth with a bold leather after taste.  The cigar is still at a medium body and the flavors are starting to stay longer on the palate.  The burn has been razor sharp every since the one inch mark.

At the one and a half inch mark all the flavors have been washed out by a warm chard tobacco flavor.  I sat the cigar down for the last time at the 1 hour and 58 minute mark.  Overall, this cigar had some similarities to last years Angels Anvil but it did feature more intensity with the pepper and bolder flavors.  Crowned Heads continues to pump out great cigars year after year!

Tatuaje Belle Encre Reserva

Tonight we have the Tatuaje Belle Encre Reserva.  This cigar has a medium brown wrapper with invisible veins and seems.  This cigar has a tapered foot and comes in at 5 3/8 X 48.  After lighting, the draw is perfect producing tons of smoke output.  On the draw a good amount of black pepper flavor and tingle sensation are present, followed by cedar and earth.  The finish continues the cedar and adds in some sweet tobacco and coffee notes.  Every few draws some bitter bakes chocolate comes in a dominates the other finish flavors.  The body is at a medium to full and the flavors stay on the palate till the next draw.  The burn through the first inch is razor sharp.

Two inches down and things are going quite well.  The draw continues to produce large amounts of smoke.  The draw flavors have remained unchanged but are more intense.  The finish starts out with the sweet tobacco and earthiness, the cedar is mixed in every few draws but has been muted.  The coffee and bakers chocolate tend to trade places as the dominant note every few draws.  Sometimes a leather will come in and out as well.  The body is staying right at the medium to full level.  The burn is still razor sharp and the cigar has presented no construction issues so far.

Three inches in and not much has changed.  The draw and finish flavors have remained nearly the exact same.  The only difference is the leather and earth have picked up and are dominating the coffee and bakers chocolate.  The draw continues to produce tons of smoke out put.  The body is still at a medium to full and the burn is razor sharp.

With just over an inch left the cigar starts to get warm.  The chocolate and bakers chocolate did start to take back over as the dominate flavor in that last third.  Now however, the black pepper has come way up and the cigar starts to take on a chard tobacco note.  I sat the cigar down for the last time at the 1 hour and 25 minute mark.  Overall this cigar had good desert like flavors and offered just enough complexity to keep me interested.

Tatuaje TAA 2014

Today we have the Tatuaje TAA 2014.  This cigar is dark brown with a few visible veins and invisible seems.  It has metallic specs  mixed in with a very toothy wrapper and a closed foot at the end of the cigar. It comes in at 6 X 52.  After lighting the draw is fairly snug.  Smoke output is at a minimum. The draw flavors have a black pepper flavor and tingle sensation with a salty earth flavor.  The finish has more of the salty earth and adds in a bitter coffee note.  The body is at a medium to full and the flavors last on the palate till the next draw.  The burn is fairly even but not razor sharp.

Just over an inch has gone by and the draw has opened up.  Smoke output is now at a normal level and the flavors are starting to blossom.  The draw still has the black pepper flavor and tingle sensation followed by the salty earth.  The finish continues the earth and pepper, the bitter coffee has transformed into a cream and mocha flavor.  Its very rich and flavor full.  The body is still at a medium to full and the flavors stay on the palate long into the next draw.  The burn has has stayed even but not razor sharp.

Three inches down and not much has changed as far as the flavors go.  The draw is still putting out good smoke output.  The pepper flavor and tingle sensation along with the earth are still on the draw.  The only difference on the finish is that a leather comes in every few draws or so giving it a nice change of pace.  The body is still at a medium to full.  The burn has evened out considerably and is now razor sharp.

With just over an inch left the cigar has gone warm and slightly mushy.  The earth and black pepper are still on the draw but the pepper is more warm and has intensified.  The mocha on the finish is still there but is slowly being replace by a chard and warm tobacco note.  I sat the cigar down for the last time at the 1 hour and 42 minutes.  Overall it was a very satisfying cigar with a great smoke time.

Asylum 13 Robusto

Tonight we have the Asylum 13 Robusto.  This cigar has a dark brown wrapper with a few visible veins and seems spanning the entire length of the cigar.  It comes in at 5 X 50.  After lighting, the draw is slightly snug but producing adequate output. Pepper is the dominant note on the draw.  The finish has some earth, followed by deep dark tobacco and finished off by more black pepper flavor and tingle sensation.  The body is already at a medium to full and is starting off like its going to be a powerhouse.  The burn through the first inch has been wavy and required one touch up.

Just over and inch in and some flavor changes start to happen.  The draw is still snug but producing adequate smoke.  The draw still has the pepper blast.  The finish still has the earth and deep dark tobacco but some leather notes have started to come on every few draws or so.  The pepper is not as intense as it was at the beginning.  The body is still at a medium to full and still seems to be turning up to a full.  The bur is still wavy but has not required any more touch ups

Three inches down and unfortunately the cigar went out on me.  I tapped the ash at noticed that the cigar was tunneling.  I gave it a relight.  A few draws after the relight the flavors returned but pepper dominated the draw and finish.  The burn is still wavy and the draw is still fairly tight but producing just enough smoke output.

With just over an inch and a half left the cigar has gone warm and mushy.  Pepper and leather are all that remain on the draw and finish.  The burn never quite recovered and required another touch up.  The flavors finally went to warm and I sat the cigar down and the 45 minute mark.  Overall it was a pretty disappointing experience.
