Drew Estate Nirvana Toro

Today we have Nirvana in Toro.  This cigar has a medium brown rustic looking wrapper.  It has invisible veins and seems.  It comes in at 6 X 52.  After lighting, the draw is slightly snug but is producing good smoke output.  The draw flavors are a sweet cedar and black pepper.  The finish has a mint taste, along with the sweet cedar and black pepper. The flavors are quite unique.  The flavors stay on the palate into the next draw and are at a mild to medium in body.  The burn through the first inch is razor sharp.

Two inches down and the flavors are mainly staying the same but intensifying.  The sweet cedar and black pepper are still on the draw and the retro-hale.  The sweet cedar and black pepper are also their on the finish but are more intense and leaving the palate with a substantial feel. A leather note is also present every few draws or so.  The sweet cedar has the taste and texture of syrup in the mouth and is a nice flavor. The body is up to a medium.  The burn remains razor sharp.

With just over and inch and a half left, not much has changed since the last update.  All the flavors still remain at the same body level.  Sweet syrup, cedar, black pepper and leather still dominate the entire flavor profile.  Overall this cigar has been a peppery version of most Cameroon wrappers that  I have smoked.  It was tasty but fairly ordinary.  I sat the cigar down for the last time at the 1 hour and 25 minute mark, which is a really good time for a Toro size smoke.

Crowned Heads Angels Anvil TAA 2017

Its that time of year again! One of my favorite annual releases is here.  Today we have the Angels Anvil.  This cigar has a light brown wrapper with no visible veins or seems. It comes in at 6 1/4 X 52.  After lighting, the draw is perfect with just the right amount of resistance.  Its producing a large amount of smoke.  The draw flavors are cedar, and cayenne pepper.  The finish flavors sees the Cayenne pepper stay, with the cedar fading.  A dry tobacco and cayenne pepper note are all that remains.  The flavors stay on the palate long into the next draw and are at a medium to full in body.  The burn through the first inch is slightly wavy.

Just over one inch down and the cigar went out on me.  I tapped the ash and it has tunneled.  I did a quick re-light  and started over.  The cigar, unfortunately, feels like a wet sponge at this point.  The cigar is requiring a double puff to get adequate smoke out put.  The draw flavors are still the cayenne pepper and cedar.  The cayenne pepper has become quite bold since the relight.  The finish has the cayenne pepper flavor, a dry tobacco is also still present.  There is also some cedar notes.  An almond like flavor is also coming in and out but the cayenne pepper still dominates in the end.  The burn has needed a touch up a few times after the relight, and the ash is really flaky.  The body is still at a medium to full.

Two inches in and the flavors have shifted.  The draw flavors have seen the cayenne pepper almost completely drop off.  Now a bread flavor is present mixed in with some cedar.  The finish now has some baking spices, pepper, cedar, and almond.  The change of pace was unexpected but welcome.  The burn has evened out some and no more relights have been required to this point, although the cigar is still quite spongy.  The bod is still at a medium to full and the draw is not requiring as many puffs to produce good output.

Three and a half inches down and the burn is still an issue.  It has required several more touch-ups.  The draw still has a tasty array of baking spices and cedar.  The finish continues with the baking spices, pepper, cedar and almond.  Every few puffs a leather note comes in and takes over the finish.  The cigar is still really really really spongy.  The body is staying right at the medium to full range.

With just over an inch and a half left, the cigar was to warm and mushy to keep drawing. The final smoke time was 1 hour and 35 minutes.  Overall, the cigar burned poorly and tunneled a lot.  However, I love the flavors! I'm going to let this one rest in the humidor for a month or so and give it another shot.  If the construction would have been better overall, this cigar would have rated very high!

DTT Sobremesa Short Churchill

Today we have the DTT Sobremesa Short Churchill.  This cigar has a light tan wrapper.  It has invisible veins and seems.  It comes in at 4 3/4 X 48.  After lighting, the draw is slightly snug but is producing adequate smoke output.  The draw has some pepper flavor and tingle sensation on the palate.  The finish starts off with a cedar and bread note and quickly transitions to a earthiness.  The flavors last on the palate till the next draw.  The cigar is at a medium body.  The burn is razor sharp through the first inch.  The draw remained snug but wasn't any issue.

An inch and a half down and some flavors start to change.  The draw is starting to put off more smoke at this point and is a bit easier to pull smoke from the cigar.  The draw has the sweet bread and cedar flavor.  The pepper intensifies slightly on finish.  The cedar and bread and earth are present on the finish but a nice leather and oak flavor have started to show up.  Ever few puffs the leather and oak dominate, but quickly goes back to the cedar and sweet bread.  I would call the sweet bread flavor almost like biting into a Hawaiian sweet roll, ya, its that tasty.  The burn remains perfect and the body is up a little and is now in between medium and full.

Two inches down and some more flavor shifts happen.  The draw still has the sweet bread and cedar.  The oak and leather is still present along with the pepper flavor and tingle sensation.  A light coco note is now coming into the mix, its soft and goes away fairly quickly but is a nice addition.  The body is till at a medium to full and the burn remains razor sharp.

With just a inch left the cigar got to warm to continue smoking and I sat it down for the last time at the 1 hour and 5 minute mark, which is a good burn time fora  smaller cigar.  Overall, this was a nice cigar that had several transitions in flavor. All the flavors were nice and went well together to provide a great smoking experience.

Nomad C-276 Toro

I am back for my first new review in 6 months.  I have been having trouble finding the time to review new cigars, even though I am smoking them at the same rate.  Today we have the Nomad C-276 in Toro.  The cigar has a dark brown maduro wrapper with invisible veins and seems.  The cigar is boxed pressed and looks like a bar of chocolate.  It comes in at 6 X 50  After lighting, the draw is almost open.  Its putting off large amounts of smoke.  The draw flavors are a sweet earth and black pepper flavor and tingle sensation on the palate.  The finish has the sweet earthiness and black pepper flavor.  The burn through the first half inch is perfect.

An inch and a half down and the cigar starts to come alive.  The sweet earth and black pepper are still on the draw.  The finish sees a black pepper start the flavors, followed by a good blast of light roast coffee and a dark bakers chocolate.  Every few puffs and a leather note steps in and fades quickly.  The dark bakers chocolate dominates 90% of the time during the finish.  Its a very obvious note and its tasty.

Three inches in and not much has changed.  The black pepper has intensified on the draw and finish slightly.  The light roast coffee note is still there but is still being dominate by the dark bakers chocolate.  The sweet earth is starting to pick up steam on the finish and is a good compliment to the dark bakers chocolate.  The burn is still razor sharp and the draw is still producing large amounts of smoke.

With just over an inch left the cigar started to get warm and the flavors started to get washed out. The cigar smoked for 1 hour and 18 minutes.  Overall, this cigar was very tasty.  The flavors reminded me of light version of a Padron 1964 Maduro.  Which is high praise for any cigar in my opinion.  I recommend this cigar for anyone to try as the flavors are tasty and easy to pick out.
