Drew Estate Undercrown Sungrown Gran Toro

Today we have the Drew Estate Undercrown Sungrown Gran Toro.  This cigar has a medium brown wrapper with no visible veins or seems.  It comes in at 6 X 52.  After lighting, the draw is slightly snug but not an issue.  The draw has some nice spiciness.  Its like a medium heat cayenne pepper flavor.  The retro hale sees the cayenne give off a nice heat.  The finish continues the cayenne.  A nice cedar flavor comes in and at the end of the draw an earthiness is present.  The flavors stay on the palate into the next draw.  The burn is sightly wavy but not an issue.

One inch down and the flavors have remained the same except for a leather note that has come in on the finish.  The leather note dominates the other finish flavors.  Every few draws the cayenne pepper flavor and heat sensation dominate the palate and then goes back to the leather note.  The cigar is up to a medium to full in body.  The burn is still slightly wavy but has not needed a touch up.

Three inches down and something odd has happened.  The body of the cigar has dropped to mild to medium.  The cedar and cayenne flavor are all the remain.  The leather comes in every now and then but is faint.  The finish has almost completely dissipated in body and the flavors leave the palate fairly quickly.  I do not recall a cigar that transitioned from a medium to full in body back down to mild to medium.  Its not a bad thing but it is an unusual transition.  The burn remains wavy but not an issue.

With an inch left the cigar has gone mushy and bitter.  I sat the cigar down for the lat time at the 1 hour and 25 minute mark.  Overall this cigar was very tasty.  The transition half way through was interesting and was an experience that I don't recall having before.  I will definitely be picking this cigar up again and can easily see it being in my weekly rotation.
