Balmoral Anejo XO Gran Toro

Today we have the Balmoral Anejo XO Gran Toro.  This cigar has a medium brown wrapper with no visible veins or seems and comes in at 6 X 52.  After lighting, the draw is a bit snug and is requiring a double puff to get adequate smoke output.  The draw flavors are fairly mild, giving off a slight cedar note with a hint of black pepper.  The retro-hale sees the black flavor go up a tick with a bit of tingle sensation and the cedar becomes more wispy and light.  The finish is quick and has a light leather, black pepper and cedar.  The body is at a mild and the flavors do not stay on the palate long.  The burn through the first inch is razor sharp.

Just over an inch in and the cigar is burning slowly.  Some flavor shifts have started to occur.  The black pepper and cedar on the draw and retro-hale have come up in body.  The finish has a cinnamon, cedar, and sweet tobacco taste.  A leather note comes in and out every now and then but usually the cinnamon and sweet tobacco is what lingers on the finish.  The body is up to a medium.  I made a second cut on the cigar and smoke production became instantly normal and the draw is now much better.  The burn remains razor sharp.

Just over three and a half inches down and the cigar continues to burn very slowly.  The flavors have stayed the same since the last update with one minor change.  A light roast coffee has started to accompany the the cinnamon, cedar, and sweet tobacco on the finish.  The leather is still coming in every now and then and the cinnamon and sweet cedar still dominate the finish.  The body is still medium.  The burn is still razor sharp.  The draw has been great ever since the second cut.

With just over an inch and a half left the cigar started to get hot and the flavors started to be washed out by chard tobacco note.  I sat the cigar down for the last time at the 2 hour mark, which is a crazy long time for a toro.  Overall, the cigar was not overly complex but did provide tasty flavors and perfect construction.  The sweet tobacco, cedar, and cinnamon were very nice combination that kept me wanting the next puff.  This will be the perfect cigar for the medium bodied cigar lover who wants an easy going tasty smoke!
