Pinar Del Rio Flores Y Rodriguez Habana in Magicos

Tonight we have the Pinar Del Rio Flores Y Rodriguez Habana in Magicos.  This cigar has a light brown wrapper with minimal veins and seems.  The cigar measures in at 5 X 50.  At first light a semi-tight draw has smoke output at a low level.  It takes around two puffs to get good smoke output.  On the draw there is a wood note with some black pepper flavor and zing.  The pepper is rather intense.  On the finish there black pepper flavor and zing and a nice roasted coffee note.  The pepper overtakes the roasted coffee and that’s the flavor you are left with until the next draw.  The body is at a medium and the burn is slightly wavy.

An inch and a half  down and I had to relight the cigar.  It appears to be tunneling.  After re-lighting there is a bitter chard tobacco and pepper on the draw and finish.  It completely overwhelms my palate and makes my mouth taste and feel like an ashtray.  I decided to let the cigar settle down for a while before I took any more draws.

After about three minutes of rest I took another puff and the cigar seems to be preforming normally again.  Its still taking a double puff to produce good smoke out put.  On the draw the wood and pepper remain.  The finish is the black pepper flavor and some leather.  The chard tobacco comes In near the end of the finish.  Its still very bitter and tastes nasty. After a couple more draws the bitter chard tobacco and pepper zing started to be the only flavor I was getting.  I decided to be finished at the 30 minute mark.

I have smoked several of these particular cigars.  I like them when the preform properly.  I have had burn issues with everyone that I have had.  This is the first one that required a relight.  This particular cigar has been sitting in my humidor for around 6 months. Storage is not this issue with this cigar. I don’t believe I will be buying or smoking any more of them.

Recommendation: Don’t smoke them! Waste of time!

Crowned Heads Jericho Hill OBS

This afternoon we have the Crowned Heads Jericho Hill OBS. This cigar has a dark brown toothy wrapper with invisible seems and no large veins.  The cigar measures at 4.7 X 52. First light reveals a perfect draw. The flavors on the draw are a fairly intense spice flavor and zing. A sweet syrupy cedar note is present as well. The finish flavor is a creamy coco and the syrupy cedar. The flavors are very smooth and creamy and  leave a oily coating in my mouth. The body is at a medium and the finish flavors last till the next draw. The burn is razor sharp and construction through the first inch is flawless.

Nearly one and a half inches down and the cigar is impressing me. On the draw the spice flavor and intensity is still present along with the syrupy sweetness. The finish still has the coco and cedar notes. There is a musty leather note that is now present and quite enjoyable. The spicy flavor is now present on the finish as well rounding out the flavors nicely. The flavor remain extremely smooth and creamy. The burn and draw are still flawless.

Two inches down and some more flavors come in on the finish. The draw stays consistent with the spiciness and syrupy cedar. The finish flavor starts out with the coco which moves to the musty leather. A roasted coffee comes in and out every few draws.  All the while the spiciness rounds out all the flavors at the end. The cigar is quite complex but balanced. The body is now medium to full. The burn and draw are still performing excellent.

Now with an inch and a half left the flavors have become warm. The remaining flavor is the leather and the spiciness which is now overwhelming the palate. I sat the cigar down at the 57 minute mark. Over all this was a fantastic cigar. I will be buying these cigars for as long a  they are in production!

Ashton VSG Wizard

Tonight we have the Ashton VSG Wizard.  This cigar comes in at  6X 56 and has a oily dark brown wrapper with invisible seems and no veins.  At first light there is some black pepper flavor and zing on the draw and through the nose.  The finish is a sweet cedar and a light coffee note.  The body is at a medium. The flavors stay on the palate till the next draw but do become less intense after a few moments.  The draw is a bit firm.  Its taking one puff to get it going and one puff to get adequate smoke out put.  The burn is slight wavy through the first inch.

Two inches down and some amazing flavors are starting to come in.  The draw is still the black pepper flavor and zing, its not overpowering but the black pepper is definitely present.   The sweet cedar note is till there but only on the draw.  The finish is a nice roasted coffee and a leather note.  The flavors are very smooth and creamy and delicious.  The body is still at a medium but the flavor intensity is starting to last longer.  The burn has evened out and is burning well.  The draw is still a bit firm still requiring two puffs.

Three inches down and some more transitions are taking place.  The black pepper flavor and zing along with the sweet cedar are still on the draw.  The finish still has the roasted coffee and leather.  A nice dark chocolate is being added to the mix as well.  One draw will be the roasted coffee and leather, the next it will mix in the dark chocolate.  Every now and then a vanilla bean will come in and out as well.  The vanilla is faint and quickly overpowered by the other finish flavors but is a nice compliment.  The flavors are still smooth and creamy and are ramping up to a full body.  The flavor stays on the palate long after the draw .  The burn has stayed even and the draw has now opened up beautifully, only requiring one puff.

Now with just over one and a half inches left the cigar is starting to get warm and mushy.  The black pepper has come way up in intensity on the draw.  The leather and cedar are still there on the finish but being dominated by a chard tobacco flavor.  I sat the cigar down in the ashtray for the last time at the 1 hour and 17 minute mark.  Overall, this was a excellent cigar that I would smoke everyday if I could afford to.

Rocky Patel Connecticut in Toro

Tonight we have the Rocky Patel Connecticut in Toro.  This cigar has a light tan wrapper with a few visible veins and seems.  It comes in at  6 X 50.  At first light there is a black pepper flavor and zing and some cedar notes on the draw.  The draw has a little bit of resistance but is producing a large amount of smoke.  The finish is a smooth creamy cedar note.  It leaves my mouth with a oily coating.  The body is at a mild to medium and the finish flavors fade pretty quickly, not lasting into the next draw.  The burn is slightly wavy but not present any issues through the first inch.

Now I am down the cigar about two and a half inches.  On the draw the black pepper flavor and zing are still present but it’s a mild flavor and zing intensity.  The finish is dominated by a semi sweet cedar and nutty note.  It is still leaving an oily feel in the mouth.  The body has risen slightly to a medium.  The flavors are starting to last into the next draw but do still fade away fairly quickly.  The burn has evened out beautifully and is now razor sharp.  The draw is still slightly snug but is producing a  large amount of smoke output.

Three inches now remain of the cigar and some slight transitions are taking place on the finish.  The draw is still the black pepper and semi sweet cedar.  The finish still has the cedar and nutty note, but is now being complemented by a leather flavor.  The flavors mix together nicely and last all the way to the next draw.  The body  is still at a medium and has never given me the feeling that it will go anything over.  The burn is till perfect and the draw is still producing good smoke output.

Two inches left and the cigar is getting warm and very mushy.  The flavors have been washed out except for a chard tobacco flavor on the draw and finish.  I sat the cigar in the ashtray for the last time at the one hour and two minute mark.

This is a good mild to medium cigar that I would suggest for the new cigar smoker or for a morning time cigar for the veteran cigar smoker.  I feel it would pair nicely in the morning with coffee.  The flavors in this cigar are easy to pick out and are enjoyable.
